Yorkshire
Wedding / Sculpture Park
On 17 May 2003 we attended
the wedding of Richard and Joanna in Yorkshire ...
... in an intriguing old
church lovingly maintained.
Big hats and posh frocks
were worn by the ladies and formal attire by the men.
The beautiful bride with
her husband and gentlemen ushers.
The happy couple (superfluous
expression!) in the vintage Bentley, leaving for the reception
and wedding breakfast.
After a very enjoyable meal
and evening disco and a not-too-late night we were fresh enough
on Sunday to navigate ourselves to the Yorkshire
Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall between Wakefield and Barnsley.
The entrance walkway to
the new visitor centre has a 100 metre long steel pathway showing
subscriber names cut into the steel plates.
Bretton Hall is an apt choice
for an English sculpture park as Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore,
both internationally acclaimed sculptors, were born in the area.
Part of the special exhibition
of works by Barbara Hepworth outside the Bothy Gallery ...
... her 'Family of Man'
on permanent display in the grounds
What's this across the grass
and between the trees? Jonathan Borofsky's 'Molecule Man 1+1+1'.
Over 500 acres of landscaped
parkland is plenty of space for a jog ...
... these figures by Elisabeth
Frink ...
... could almost be running
round to herd her Water Buffalo ...
... except she already has
these guardians standing by.
