laKe district - part ii

Return to Part I

Wall End Farm, Oxendale and our major objective the Crinkles with cloud not yet cleared.

At the start of our ascent of Pike o' Blisco. Redacre Gill, Mickleden and Langdale Pikes. Our relative progress through the day would be measured by reference to the Pikes.

We're gaining height, but we're not there yet! Whew! It's steep! Mark is way ahead (the dark dot by the bracken!)

That's Side Pike down there with the pass from Langdale to Blea Tarn and Little Langdale. We must be near the top ...

There we are. The Crinkles and Bow Fell, with Great Knott just in front.

And from the Red Tarn gap we can see the Pikes at our level or lower beyond the end of The Band.

So that's where we've come! Pike o' Blisco the conical peak in the middle distance.

From the top of the first Crinkle, The Langdale Pikes are well above The Band but well below us. Look how the haze in the distance blanks out the other fells!

Our first view of the Scafells across Upper Eskdale.

Mark quizzically waiting for yet another 'photy stop'! Well above the Pikes, now!

The last backward look. Pike o' Blisco is still the conical one in the middle.

Mark atop the 'bad step'. There was a time ...

Bow Fell, our final peak with the Great End fells beyond.

Scafell and Scafell Pike from Bow Fell
