Rainow
& Upper Dean Valley
Rainow, on the B5470 to
Whalley Bridge, sits beside the River Dean above Bollington.
The hamlet of Ginclough
half a mile beyond Rainow.
The clough above the hamlet,
with shrunken stream this dry March.
Slack o' t' Moor Farm standing
above the clough.
The ruined farmhouse at
Yearnslow on the lip of the Dean Valley obscuring the view ...
... of Lamaload and its
dam wall.
Looking south over the Dean
Valley and up to Macclesfield Forest darkly fringing the farthest
horizon.
The side clough above the
water works not yet showing Springlike.
Approaching the Lamaload
Dam with the afternoon shadow creeping up the strongly ribbed
and stained face of the wall.
Closer to, the strength
of the sculptured bulk and height is impressive. To remind yourself
of scale look at the fenceposts in the far left alcove!
Starting to head back down
the valley on the south side with a backward look at the Lamaload
Dam. The wall corner peeping out above the near forest and a backdrop
of Andrew's Edge with its own plantation.
