Kettleshulme
and Whaley Bridge
Driving east on the B5470,
Kettleshulme announces itself to the world in orthodox approved
manner ...
....
... and then closer to the
village in a more idiosyncratic way.
The easternmost settlement
in the Macclesfield Borough, Kettleshulme is a small village of
local-stone-built cottages ...
... farmhouses (some no
longer working-farms) ...
... and larger houses, such
as Glebe House beside the main road ...
... and Gap House, on an
old road and tucked amongst the trees that overlook ...
... the Todbrook Reservoir
above Whaley Bridge.
The road to Disley affords
a birds-eye view of Kettleshulme sitting on the hillside between
Windgather Rocks, on the skyline right of centre ...
... and, beneath your feet,
the course of the Todbrook, with an extensive view north-east
to Kinder Scout.
Driving east, you could
be forgiven for passing through without noticing the plant nursery
in the village, as it sits opposite the eye-catching Swan Inn.
You have to leave the main
road and bump down this old track to reach this seemingly unused
and near derelict old textile mill ...
... on the bank of the Todbrook
below this cascade.
