...
Wisteria flowers hang by
the south-facing garden wall and waxy pinking trumpets of Magnolia
are opening.
...
...
Colour is everywhere. In
contrasts of white on green on red on green, in massed pink florets,
in individual blossoms and in foliage.
Whither this avenue beyond
the Yew topiary? Some Utopia?
Maybe. Certainly to the
tranquillity of the restored Japanese Garden. The island sited
Shinto Temple is slowly shedding its winter spareness as azaleas
threaten an early blossoming.
We didn't see any geisha
or monks crossing the bridge but a guided party of gardening enthusiasts
cluttered the place ...
and all but destroyed by
their numbers the peace and solitude such a garden seeks to engender
...
fortunate juggling of time
and place, however, enabled these shots.
...
...
All around the extensive
gardens Rhododendrons are coming into flower or are already in
the fullness of bloom.
Fading Narcissi in the glade
are giving way to rampant Bluebells
...
...
Rhododendron flowerings
are not all the big blowsy blooms we have come to expect. More
homely trees are also making their mark and there can be surprising
beauty in the flowers of coniferous trees.
It's getting late, however.
Let's close the garden door now and after a lovely day ...
... head off into the sunset?
