Chestnut
Centre
My son Mark and grandson
William stayed over for a few days and one of the boys own outings
we did was the Chestnut
Centre beyond Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Waiting for Grandad! Again!
We are there, already! The
view from the carpark over the roof of the cafe/shop towards Brown
Knoll, with the heather breaking into flower.
William at the start of
the deerpark (Roe) with Dad ambling along the track.
South Head on the skyline
above Ford Hall in whose grounds the Chestnut Centre is located.
This notice pinned up alongside
the track gives a potted history.
Looking west to Chinley
Churn.
Plenty of illustrated panels
informing on conservation but this was particularly relevant to
a (nearly) five year-old.
The pen of the Giant Otters
where we had to be content with the photo on display!
We were more fortunate with
this frolicsome trio of Short-toed Otters, natives of SE Asia.
They seem to be very gregarious
creatures and roll themselves into a close bundle whenever they
are not chasing about.
....
I count myself fortunate
to have caught this inspection line-up (L), most of my shots caught
one or other moving but here (R) all three are dashing away together.
If the otters were difficult
the owls were impossible, short of climbing over the barrier and
inserting the lens through the mesh - not a good example for a
five year-old. Here a Snowy Owl, the most recognisable of the
fuzzy obscured pix I took before I gave up trying.
It was,however, a most enjoyable
relaxing day, nice spot, loads of sun ...
... and ice cream ...
... and, photographic difficulties
apart, plenty of things to photograph including my own reflection.
